Dentures & Partials
Full dentures, also called a complete denture, is an oral appliance that replaces an entire arch of teeth. They involve a set of artificial teeth and a gum-colored base. Using your palate or lower jawbone ridge as support, full dentures rest on your gums.
Instead of replacing an entire arch, dentures can also be used to replace just a few missing teeth. These are referred to as partial dentures. This device may be used if you’re missing teeth in one or both jaws. Just like a complete denture, partial dentures also use your gums and jawbone for support.
Crowns & Bridges
A dental crown is a thin cover that fits over a tooth, to protect damaged tooth enamel. Dental crowns are shaped to look just like natural teeth – and they can be made the same color as natural teeth, as well.
Dental bridges allow gaps between your teeth due to extractions to be filled in an aesthetic, functional way. A dental bridge is mounted on existing teeth with a prosthetic tooth between them.
Dental Implants
An implant is similar to a bridge in that it replaces a missing tooth, but the difference comes down to procedure. An implant is a more involved process that requires the patient to first get a metal post in their jaw so it can fuse to the bone.
Implant Supported Denture
Another type of denture is actually held in place with a dental implant. This is called an implant supported denture, which is non-removable. Unlike other types of dentures, implant-supported dentures don’t snap in and out. In fact, only a dentist can remove them.
